What's the best text message you've ever gotten?
" Happy VD Slut "
received on valentines day, from a gay friend.
What books did you love as a child?
Submitted by hearts.
What's the last thing you usually do or think about before you fall asleep?
Anything I have to do/haven't gotten done/need to buy/see/plan. Often anything embarassing that's happened during the day... and more often than not, what time I have to get up in the morning.
Does anyone else run through lists in their head before falling asleep? Or is it just me that finds bedtime stressful?
I tend to try and read till I am so tired I can't keep my eyes open, because tiring my brain out is the only thing that helps.
What are your plans for the holiday weekend?
working working and more working.
yesterday i designed, prinited and addressed invitations- all of which is thoroughly worth paying someone else to do.
today i try to avoid space planning as much as humanly possible, and tomorrow, i run around lifting heavy things. with a shorter break, because it's a holiday, goddamnit.
i also am thoroughly jealous of todd, who hasn't been to work since wednesday.
How well do you know your next-door neighbors?
Not at all, not really.
I was introduced to the people up the block one house when we moved in last year, but I've forgotten their names and rarely bump into them on the street. I have seen them stumbling drunkenly around once or twice... And once the old woman called me Todd's name.....
The people just down the block moved in when I wasn't looking. I've seen them coming and going occasionally... A mother, father, and child (possibly two) from the garden apt entrance. We've exchanged smiles, waves, and hellos. I sometimes see the children playing in the backyard. But that doesn't qualify as knowing them, now does it?
I do know both of the couples in my building below me. Jason and Lisa are directly below- they're from the midwest and she's a teacher, he's a prop guy of some sort- who likes to barbecue. Dan and Eliph down in the garden apt have 2 young girls, Mimosa and Leela. I was invited to Mimosa's birthday party, but had to work (much like I have to whenever there is a building barbcue in the backyard). And little Leela seems to hate to wear clothes, as sometimes 4 year olds do.
I recognize the faces of my neighbors who are sitting on their steps in the evening as I come home from work. Though as it gets darker earlier- I am more likely to recognize their shapes than faces. A few folks say hello as they recognize me trudging home nightly around 9pm.
I know the old man who stands on his porch most of the day and night, loudly conversing with everyone else. Maurice, he's like a fixture... His voice is surprisingly high, and he's always has a wave and a hello for me.
If you could open any sort of restaurant, what would it be like?
It would be a bakery.
I'd have lots of merengue pies. Berry, chocolate, lemon, you name it... but it'll have to have merengue. Except the apple pies... no merengue needed there. Oh, and cookies, and red velvet cupcakes and tarts, and. And. And.
Is that cheating? Is this not really the question? Bah! Baked goods are a form of food. So bite me. Or rather... bite of my pie.
What was your favorite candy when you were a kid? How does that compare to now?
As a kid it was all about marshmellows/fluff/cotton candy. Essentially- pure sugar. I don't think I ever really had it all too often, but mmmm fluff.... Maybe magic shell? That magic chocolate syrup that became hard on ice cream.... mmmmmm.... ice cream.....
Now? Today? Well, I just came back from Coney Island where Todd surprised me with a bag of cotton candy. But even marshmellows I could do without if I had to.... But a few pieces of dark chocolate... it's a weakness. Or actually one of my favorite things to do when I get all PMS-y and in need of sweet- is a single Lindt dark chocolate truffle square paired with a single Lindt white chocolate square.... it's heaven.
